We spend a lot of time indoors, especially in our own homes. The products we keep in our home may contain toxic compounds that can linger the air we breathe. Things like pollen, bacteria and mold also can cause issues in in the air in your home. Luckily, there is an easy solution to purifying the air – houseplants!
NASA scientists have been studying the effects of certain houseplants and their ability to clean the air. Plants absorb particulates while they take in carbon dioxide, which then becomes oxygen during photosynthesis. There are certain microorganisms located in the plant’s soil that also help with cleaning the air.
If you don’t have a green thumb, don’t worry! Plants are generally easy to care for and the list of plants that we have included below are some of the easiest to take care of. Be careful to check a plants toxicity if you have a dog or a cat in the home before purchasing.
What about herbs? If you like to include these in your cooking then you’re in luck! Some herbs are efficient enough to remove 90% of toxic compounds in the air. We are looking forward to adding Modern Sprout to the growing list of products carried in the store. We will be able to offer some fun herb-growing kits (as seen below) that you can keep in your home to help purify the air and to cook with! A win/win situation!
